Me...

This is me and a short version of where i am today...

Sian Alexandra Avery (now Thompson), born July 1984.

I grew up with my mum, step dad and 3 younger sister. I grew up and went to a school in a little village called Hurworth, At the age of 15 i finished school and achieved 10 GCSE's A-C grade, i was elated, imagine what i could have done if id tried!!  I started my NVQ in beauty therapy at Darlington College in Sept 2000, then April 2001 aged 16 i found out i was pregnant with my son.  My family were less than thrilled and worried having a baby would ruin my chances for the future, un deterred by their lack of support in February 2002 i gave birth to my son.  I went back to college and finished my course.

March 2004 i met Craig, little did i know nearly 10 years later and id have married my rock and my best friend.  I gave birth to our daughter in June 2007 and my perfect little family was complete.

I  have been in the beauty industry for over 10 years, leaving college with an NVQ level 2 and 3 in beauty therapy, plus certificates in nail art, Indian head and nail enhancements.  Having 3 younger sisters in the house and a mum who wasn't exactly skilled in the hair styling department i had always loved playing with hair and make up.

At the age of 25 i decided i wanted to expand my skills and try hairdressing but after researching didn't think i was going to be able to afford to train at college, but a friend told me i may be able to get help at a different college as they got more funding off the government, so off i went to enroll on my level 1 hairdressing for FREE!! I then got my self a part time job at the local hair salon and was told i could do an apprenticeship through BL hairdressing college, so i could learn and be paid (a bonus when you have 2 kid and a house to pay for).  So a few years later and i have qualified with levels 1-3 in hairdressing and level 2 barbering.  I cant believe i didn't do it sooner! i love hairdressing and thrive off the passion i have for it.

So 2012 and after years of happily working in salons around the area i was given the opportunity to set up on my own small hair salon, with nothing to lose and the support of my husband i started my journey in the world of being self employed.

A year later and i was loving every minute of being my own boss.  I was building up a steady regular clientele and could fit my work around my family.  Only having such a small space to work from i felt i had no room to grow or expand.  A new opportunity was presented to me with the chance to offer both hair and beauty from bigger premises.

September 2013 i opened Sian Alexandra Hair and Beauty, at The Honest Lawyer Hotel, Croxdale.  it has been 3 weeks and i'm settling in well and couldn't be happier.  My regular clients have followed me and i am so grateful for their loyalty and support, you guys are the people who are helping me grow not only as a business but as a person, so thank you.

Every time i walk in to my new room it fills me with a sense of pride and positivity and it just feels right.  Who'd have thought that naive pregnant teenager who was so scared she couldn't look after her self let alone another little person, would at the age of 29 be married, living in my own house with 2 amazingly bright, polite, well mannered children, living the dream running my own business, doing a job that i love, no two days are ever the same and i get to meet great people, some of which have become great friends.

So there you are a little bit too much about me...another quality perfect for a hairdresser, talking far to much!!
Watch this space for the next chapter in my ever eventful life.....
